Coming home is part of the route

The walk is over, but the device is not yet ready for its next outing. It is easy to put everything into one bag in the hallway and leave cleaning until the weekend. Instead, set aside a quiet place for inspection and drying: away from wet boots and not beneath a pile of other equipment.

The purpose of this habit is not a polished finish. It is to notice dirt and distinguish it from damage. The requirements below concern X Series under manual v5.1; the S series needs its own instructions.

Different materials need different care

The manual treats the frame and soft fabrics separately. Wipe the frame with a soft, damp cloth; use a similar cloth and mild detergent for the fabrics. Everything must air-dry completely before storage or reuse.

A practical arrangement: keep a separate clean cloth for the device rather than using the one that just wiped your shoes. Open the relevant manual section before starting. A bottle labelled “universal” is not proof that its contents suit every material in an exoskeleton.

What not to rush

The manufacturer prohibits immersing the frame, using pressurised water, or letting moisture reach electronics and connectors. Fabrics must not be machine-washed or tumble-dried, cleaned with bleach or strong alkalis, or dried in direct sunlight or high heat.

Do not schedule cleaning five minutes before leaving: that invites the temptation to speed up drying. Leave unhurried time. If you still have doubts about the device afterwards, the next outing can wait; an optimistic look at an indicator is no substitute for a check.

A specific exception is not a general recommendation

The frame carries a general warning against solvents. Separately, the manual describes local use of 75% alcohol on friction marks on hip lever tubes and hip clamps. This is not permission to wipe the entire device with alcohol. AquaTex has a separate instruction concerning a specialised protective spray.

If you are unsure which part you are looking at or which product is suitable, do not experiment. Photograph the area for a support enquiry and ask for advice for your particular model. Routine care should not turn into an improvised repair.

A short note is more useful than memory

After inspection, record the date and any unusual changes, such as an area of fabric that needs attention. For tears, deformation or other textile damage, the manual calls for timely replacement rather than concealing the defect by cleaning.

That note helps you explain a service enquiry without guessing. Open the model pages below to compare designs; see the separate article for packing after care. A clean appearance alone does not establish that a device is working correctly or guarantee safety.
